New Scam Fools WhatsApp Users to Steal Credit Details

WhatsApp messages with fake subscription have been scamming users to steal bank details, according to a news report last Monday.

The scheme deceives unsuspecting WhatsApp users to register for a subscription to their account. Since WhatsApp is a free app, people are wary of suspicious messages like this, but there are still some who still fall for the trap.

WhatsApp used to charge $0.99 for their service, but has decided to give the service for free in January 2016. The scammers used this information to trick over 1 billion users into sending their credit card details.

UK’s cyber crime centre, Action Fraud, together with the London police released a statement warning people of the scam.

Users who get the emails are told to inform the police and not click any of the links in the message.
