New Research Says Facebook Keeps ID on 40% of EU Population

A study from the University Carlos III of Madrid recently established that Facebook stores sensitive personal data on around 205 million European users, which accounts for around 40% of the bloc’s population.

Research authors José González Cabañas, Ángel Cuevas, and Rubén Cuevas said that this could possibly be against the upcoming EU GDPR which says that Facebook must get explicit consent from individuals if it wants to explore categories of personal data such as political orientation, religious beliefs, sexual preferences.

The authors also urged the tech giant to react to the study and stop the usage of personal data in its ad preference.
