29 Dec New Reports Recommends Ban on Personal Data Sharing by Websites with Advertisers
A new report called “Blocking the Data Stalkers” by UK think tank New Economics Foundation recommended that website owners be banned from sharing the personal data of their users to advertisers.
NEF researcher Duncan McCann said that until legislation catches up, the adtech industry and the tech giants will use increasingly invasive services to advertise to their viewers while compromising their data. He added that the present is a critical moment where intervention is needed to ensure that the core business model of the digital age is not centred on ubiquitous surveillance and the provision of personalized advertising.
