20 Sep New Report Urges Industry to Bake In Privacy Safeguards for Children
A new report entitled “Home Life Data and Children’s Privacy” has raised concerns on the collection of children’s data by smart home devices and called on the industry to ensure that age appropriate design code is included in such technologies.
Author of the report, Dr. Veronica Barassi of Goldsmiths, University of London, urged UK’s data protection agency to review the way kids’ data is being collected by IoT and AI home assistants as it is reportedly being mixed with adult data. Barassi says that this can have considerable impact on children’s privacy and should be at the heart of future debates on the issue.
The report was submitted to the ICO in response to its public consultation request on the Age Appropriate Design Code it will be drafting.
