New Firefox Add-on Helps Users Isolate Facebook Identity

Earlier this week, Mozilla announced that it has launched a new Firefox add-on called Facebook Container that can give users more control over what kind of data Facebook siphons.

Facebook Container allows users to separate their Facebook identity from their web activity, preventing the social network from using that data to send targeted advertisement. After installation, the add-on will disable actions such as the opening of links clicked inside Facebook, like or share buttons outside the platform, or prevent login to third-party apps using Facebook credentials.

While the add-on is said to plug a gaping hole that allows Facebook to siphon user data outside of its service, it will not prevent advertisers from collecting user data within the platform itself.
