New Chinese AI Tech Monitors Employees Brainwaves

A new kind of surveillance technology which raised privacy concerns was reportedly launched in China recently. The AI-driven technology is expected to be used to monitor the brainwaves of employees to help employers determine emotions such as anger, depression, or anxiety.

While such information can be used to modulate break times, assess fatigue, and even monitor patient condition in hospitals, it is said that the personal data mining technology can be used for more sinister applications as well, such as China’s social credit score. In one such case in 2016, a Chinese man was denied a plane ticket and his social score was significantly reduced after issuing an apology to the court on April Fool’s Day.
