National Security Concerns Highlighted in 3rd Telco Hearing

Concerns over national security and were raised this week in the hearing on the entry of Mislatel, the country’s new telco player.

Senator Grace Poe, the chairperson of the Committee on Public Services, said that the hearing will also address issues surrounding Mislatel’s partner China Telecom, which had reportedly “hijacked and rerouted 15 percent of the world’s web traffic into its own servers for 18 minutes.”

Poe and other lawmakers are concerned that the state-run China Telecom will be a “Trojan horse” that could threaten state secrets. However, Mislatel assured that data protection and national security are its “top priority.” in its rollout plan.
