Lawsuit Filed Against Marriott Hours After Data Breach Announcement

A $12.5 billion lawsuit has reportedly been filed against Marriott by two men from Oregon hours after the international hotel chain announced a data breach Friday last week.

The lawsuit was followed by another one from Maryland hours after. Both are seeking class-action status, but plaintiffs in the Maryland lawsuit did not specify the amount of damages they were seeking.

The amount would be divided among the 500 million users who had their personal data stolen from Marriott’s servers in the breach announced last week. Each person would receive around $25, which is the minimum value for the time users will spend canceling credit cards due to the hack.
