Lawmakers Question DNA Testing Companies Over Privacy Policies

Reps. Dave Loebsack of Iowa and Frank Pallone Jr. of New Jersey questioned this week four genetic testing companies over concerns regarding their customer privacy and security policies. The representatives, who sit on the Energy and Commerce committee which handles health care and privacy issues in technology, said that they want to identify potential challenges before a breach actually happens.

In a letter sent this week, the Democratic lawmakers also expressed their interest in working with genealogy platforms 23andMe, AncestryDNA, Family Tree DNA, and National Geographic Geno to address privacy issues since according to them, Congress more often the not, acts after the horse is out of the barn.
