11 Dec Labor’s Husic Calls New Encryption Law a “Cane Toad”
In a recent interview, Shadow Minister for the Digital Economy Ed Husic likened Australia’s newly approved encryption laws to the disastrous introduction of the cane toad to the continent.
Husic pointed out that a lot of countries have tried to grapple with the issue of encryption and have not wanted to do what the Australian government has wanted to do, which was to inject a “cyber cane toad” into sensitive encryption environments.
Husic added that letting the law pass was a “terrible choice” his party had to deal with, but it was the “best possible thing” to let it pass with the belief they will be amended in February.
