Korean Authorities to Probe Data Security Measures of Crypto Exchanges

The Korean Communications Commission (KCC) and the Korean Internet & Security Agency (KISA) are reportedly investigating how crypto exchange operators’ handling of personal data, prompted by the string of attacks on Korean exchanges within the last few months.

The KISA and KCC will be examining the exchanges’ technical and administrative protection measures related to personal information, focusing on access controls of systems that process personal data, tampering prevention and encryption of personal information, as well as preventive measures against malicious programs.

Companies in questions will be prescribed necessary corrective measures, and those that fail to implement the corrections will be penalized for violating the Information and Communication Network Act of 2017.
