Kentucky Senator to Withdraw State Open Records Law

Kentucky senator Danny Carroll said this week that he will be withdrawing a bill that critics say would “eviscerate” the state’s open records law.

The Republican lawmaker said he will be pulling the bill Wednesday over concerns raised by the Kentucky Press Association and others, saying that he would like to discuss it with them and see if they can find a better way to accomplish what they intend to do.

Carroll, a former police officer, said that he filed the bill to protect the personal information of police, firefighters, judges and some other public employees without the intent of limiting access to most public records.
