Ireland Data Protection Commissioner Supports WP29’s Stance on WhatsApp Issue

Earlier this week, a spokesperson confirmed that Ireland’s Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) Helen Dixon expressed her support for the EU regulator’s tough stance on WhatsApp’s data sharing issue.

The Office of the DPC additionally said that both WhatsApp and Facebook Ireland confirmed with them that data sharing between the two will remain suspended. It was reported that the Article 29 Working Party had sent a letter to WhatsApp last October 24 which said that its concerns regarding the app’s data sharing with Facebook still hasn’t been resolved.

The Irish data regulator further said that they welcome WP29’s analysis of the substantive data protection issues that were raised by the privacy policy.
