10 May iPhone’s “USB Restricted Mode” Provides Extra Layer of Security
It was revealed this week that a new iPhone feature spotted in the beta version of iOS 11.4 called “USB Restricted Mode” is able to keep USB accessories from connecting to the device’s Lightning port if it has not been unlocked within 7 days.
The security feature is said to be Apple’s response to GrayKey, which is a device specifically designed to crack iPhones. Although no official results have been published yet, experts say that GrayKey may be rendered useless if the feature prevents it from connecting to the device.
USB Restricted Mode is expected to present another major obstacle to law enforcement who had been pressuring Apple to provide a backdoor to its devices.
