10 Oct Instagram Trials User Location Sharing with Facebook
Sources have said this week that Instagram was caught prototyping a new privacy setting where user location data will be shared with its parent company Facebook.
It is said that this will allow Facebook to target users with ads using their exact GPS coordinates collected by Instagram. The geo-tagged data will appear in the user’s Facebook Profile Activity Log which is likely to include all the places the user may have been to.
However, a Facebook spokesperson said that while the company has not yet changed any privacy settings, it does occasionally test ideas which it may or may not roll out.
