Indian IT Ministry Calls on 9 More Smartphone Brands Regarding Data Security

India’s IT Ministry has contacted nine other mobile phone makers, asking them to submit information on their data security practices.

The ministry has subsequently asked all manufacturers who were selling their units in the country, which included Apple, Asus, Gionee, HMD, Honor, Huawei, InFocus, Lava, Micromax, Motorola, OnePlus,Oppo, Samsung, and Sony. Reliance Retail had also been mailed, but has not yet responded.

It is said that the government’s increased vigilance over mobile phone security is due to tensions with China over Doklam, and growing concerns about Chinese electronics and IT products.
