17 Aug Indian Government Scrutinize 21 Smartphone Manufacturers on Data Security
In light of the recent disagreement of India and China over Doklam, and rising global concerns over Chinese tech products, the IT Ministry of India has asked 21 smart phone manufacturers to submit information on the data privacy and security measures they provide for their users.
According to an official from the Ministry, the device and its preloaded software and apps will be thoroughly examined in the first phase.
IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had called a meeting last August 14, instructing department senior officials, Cert-In representatives, and others to take stock of the situation. The issue was also give critical priority due to the surge of digital payments and e-commerce transactions.
The companies will have until August 28 to submit their response.
