21 Nov Human Rights Watch Blasts China’s Police Cloud
Human Rights Watch recently criticized China’s “Police Cloud”, calling it a privacy rights violation.
HRW’s Sophie Richardson said that the Chinese government’s efforts in collecting and storing the personal information of its citizens, and the use of such a database to identify and conduct surveillance on individuals who deviate from the “norm” is considerably frightening.
It is said that the government intends to use its big data policing platforms primarily for suppressing crimes, but HRW said that it also allows for the arbitrary gathering of information from citizens.
