House Group to Consolidate Social Media Regulation Measures

A technical working group formed by the House Committee on Information and Communications Technology has been tasked to consolidate measures that seek to regulate social media.

The TWG, chaired by Tarlac Rep. Victor Yap, will be consolidating House Bills 4093, and 5021, authored by Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. and former Speaker and Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez, respectively.

Teves says that HB 4093, which he authored, aims to address online activities such as cyber bullying, libel, online scams, and even the selling of drugs and prostitution by holding individuals, private and public entities accountable for their online interactions.
