10 Feb Hiscox Accused of Breaching UK Data Protection Act
International insurance provider Hiscox is currently being tried for breaching data protection laws. Noted to be the “first of its kind”, Hiscox had been taken to court by the UK Information Commissioner’s Office for three offences to the 1998 Data Protection Act.
The insurer was said to have demanded from a policy holder information on his criminal convictions and police cautions on three separate occasions when it suspected a fraudulent claim. Hiscox, however, denied the accusations and argued that their demands were in the public interest.
