Heathrow Airport Fined £120,000 for Breach via USB Stick

London’s Heathrow Airport was handed this week a £120,000 by the Information Commissioner’s Office for an embarrassing data breach involving a USB stick.

The USB stick, which had apparently been lost by an employee, contained 76 folders with over 1000 confidential files and personal data including names, dates of birth, passport numbers, and other details relating to individuals and aviation security staff.

The USB was reportedly recovered by a member of the public who was easily able to view its contents at a public library since the storage was not even encrypted nor protected.
