09 Aug HBO Attackers Demand Ransom, Leaks GoT Actors Personal Information
Hackers responsible for the recent HBO breach have reached out to CEO Richard Plepler, ordering a multi-million dollar ransom from the entertainment giant. Phone numbers and emails of Game of Throne’s actors (GoT) were also leaked.
The attackers sent a video demanding ransom within three days or they will release more shows and confidential data.
The ransom is set in the attacker’s six-month Bitcoin earnings, in which they claim to get $12-15 million a year from extorting major companies. Moreover, they said HBO is their 17th target, and only 3 companies refused to pay in the past.
The video also came with leaked files worth 3.4GB containing 5 GoT scripts, administrative passwords, and emails of HBO vice president Leslie Cohen. It also contained contact details of actors like Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage and Lena Heady.
HBO is still working with law enforcement and security experts on the investigation.
