18 Jul Hacking Campaign Uses Fake WhatsApp, Telegram
Cisco Talos researchers warned this week that a hacking campaign that uses fake versions of Telegram and WhatsApp to push data-stealing malware onto iPhones is currently active and have already claimed thirteen victims in India.
The attackers reportedly use an open-source mobile device management (MDM) software package to take control of the device. Sensitive information including the phone number, serial number, location, contact details, user’s photos, SMS, and Telegram and WhatsApp chat messages are then stolen by the hackers.
The researchers added that the campaign, which had been active since August 2015, sometimes pretends to be of Russian origin.
