Grindr Acquisition by Chinese Firm Raises Privacy Concerns

The recent acquisition of gay dating app Grindr by the Kunlun Group have raised privacy concerns from experts and former intelligence officials who say that the buyout may give Chinese government access sensitive personal information of millions of non-Chinese citizens.

According to former US intelligence analyst Peter Mattis, recent Chinese intelligence practices may indicate that the regime may be building a database of identities which it can use for influence or intelligence.

It is said that the US government is increasingly getting wary of Chinese acquisitions of US companies, which may be the reason why it blocked Alibaba’s Ant Financial from major remittance firm Moneygram.
