Google’s Sidewalk Labs Collect Data from Toronto Groups for Public Life Study

Alphabet’s urban innovation arm, Sidewalk Labs, has reportedly partnered with two organizations in Toronto to collect data for its study on the usage of a city park.

However, some Smart Cities researchers raised concerns on how the collected data will be used and why the project was not discussed until after its completion.

Sidewalk Labs Jesse Shapins assured that they never publicized the study in an effort to avoid any extra attention the park might receive, and not because of privacy concerns.

It was noted that Sidewalk Labs was also involved in a project with Waterfront Toronto which was marred by privacy issues.
