Google Excludes Privacy, Security Teams From Chinese Censored Search Project

It was recently reported that Google did not follow standard procedure with regards to its Chinese search engine project and excluded its privacy and security teams from the review process.

Google engineer Yonatan Zunger said that the company’s head of operations in China wanted the privacy review on the project to be pro forma, and to defer entirely to his views of what the product ought to be. The exec named Beaumont said that security, privacy, and legal teams should not be able to question his product decisions.

Zunger, whose statements were corroborated by three other source, also said that Beaumont maintained an openly adversarial relationship with them.
