08 Dec Germany Tries to Quell Backlash Against Backdoor Proposal
The German government is trying to clarify its stance on the installation of backdoors, as recently mentioned by acting federal interior minister Thomas de Maizière. The interior ministry pointed out that there were a number of inconsistencies with the report of RedaktionsNetzwerks Deutschland (RND) on their proposal.
The government tweeted a video last Monday in an attempt to placate the uproar generated by De Maizière’s announcement. A spokesman for the interior ministry, Johannes Dimroth, said that they were not pushing for a backdoor on connected devices, but rather they were only looking for a way to be able to order manufacturers to withhold the notification of an intrusion, with a court order.
