13 Jun G7 Moves to Fight Personal Data Abuse by Foreign Actors
In its 28-paragraph communique last Saturday, G7 members said that they are looking to work directly with Internet service providers and social media platforms to prevent the “malicious misuse” of information technology by “foreign actors” that seek to destroy privacy using cyber attacks.
The G7 also accused Russia of taking actions that destabilize and undermine democratic systems. US intelligence agencies had previously blamed Kremlin for using disinformation through social media to influence the 2016 U.S. election. However, it is said that U.S. president Donald Trump instructed his staff not to endorse the communique after leaving the conference in Charlevoix, Que.
