French DPA May Fine WhatsApp for Sharing Data with Facebook

Last Monday, French data protection authority CNIL threatened to penalize WhatsApp if it continues its current data sharing process with its parent company Facebook.

CNIL found to WhatsApp to be in violation of French privacy law and gave the messaging app one month to comply.

WhatsApp began sharing user data with Facebook in 2016, a move which put it in the crosshairs of European privacy watchdogs.

The French regulator pointed out that the only way users can refuse the data transfer arrangement would be to uninstall the app.
