Former Uber Manager: Company Secretly Eavesdropped on Employee Calls

A former Uber intelligence manager recently divulged in a letter that the ride-hailing company had conducted an unbelievable amount of questionable surveillance methods, including bugging hotels, infiltrating WhatsApp groups, and hacking the databases of taxi companies.

In what was referred to as the “Jacobs Letter”, the unverified claims mentioned that Uber even tapped and recorded employee phone calls, which violates California Penal Code Section 632, and the federal Wiretap Act.

This is said to have prompted the exit of Susan Fowler, a former Uber engineer who subsequently wrote about the sexual harassment and sexism she experienced while at the company.
