Five Eyes Likely to Force Encryption Backdoors on Tech Companies

Last week, security and immigration ministers from the Five Eyes member nations put forward a range of proposals on terrorism and crime, and government access to encrypted information.

At the Five Country Ministerial meeting, the countries said that they intend to “encourage information and communications technology service providers to voluntarily establish lawful access solutions to their products and services.”

It is said that while the governments will not specify any particular interception technology, technology companies will be left to create the solutions needed to allow lawful access to encrypted data.
