Firefox Caught Installing Intrusive “Mr. Robot” Add-on

It was revealed earlier this week that an add-on called Looking Glass was installed on the browsers of users who allowed Firefox to install and run studies. The move was said to have slightly dampened the enthusiastic reception of the new Quantum release that saw around 170 million installs as of last week.

The add-on, which is an alternate reality game tie-in with the Mr. Robot tv series, inverts certain texts on the browser. After the negative reaction, Mozilla CMO Jascha Kaykas-Wolff said that what they wanted to do was engage users in a fun and unique way. He added that the add-on has been moved to the Add-on store and that it had never collected any user data, and had to be explicitly enabled for it to work.
