Firefox 58 Will Have Tor-like Privacy Feature

Mozilla recently announced that the latest iteration of Firefox will come with a privacy-preserving feature called canvas blocking which was implemented only in browsers such as Tor.

The feature will prevent websites from accessing canvas data, which is often used to track or “fingerprint” the user’s computer so that ad networks can target ads more reliably. It was reported that Firefox will now alert the user with a notification whenever a website wants to access canvas data.

This is the second feature Mozilla has borrowed from Tor in an effort to boost Firefox’s privacy protection. Firefox 52 previously adopted a mechanism which prevented websites from fingerprinting users using system fonts.
