01 Jan Fake Amazon Echo App Found on Apple App Store
Scammers have reportedly been able to sneak in a fake Amazon Echo app into Apple’s App Store where it went up to #6 in the Utilities category and got a 9000 rating before being taken down.
Reddit users quickly called attention to the malicious app, which apparently asks end-users for their internet protocol (IP) address, device username and serial number so that the attacker can wander about the user’s data pool and steal whatever data they want.
A company called “One World Software” is said to be behind the malicious app and may also be responsible for two other called”Buy/Sell,” which mimics Facebook’s color scheme, and another called “Any Font for Instagram.”
