Facial Recognition Now Being Used to Collect Data on Shoppers

Group managing director of Jardine OneSolution Mark Lunt recently revealed that malls and similar establishments are now using facial recognition to collect data on consumer demographics.

Lunt says that the IT company has helped companies in the retail sector install technology that profiles customers. According to Lunt, the data collected helps serve more appropriate offers to customers.

He also revealed that there are limitations imposed on retailers regarding the use and protection of collected data, and that the main barrier to the implementation of the technology is privacy and cultural concerns.
