11 Aug Facebook’s New Privacy Rules Still Receiving Criticisms from Academics
The US academic community this week wrote an open letter to Facebook, requesting that the tech giant formally amend its terms of service to exclude academic researchers from the company’s efforts to protect its users.
The Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University explained to CEO Mark Zuckerberg that that academic research should take priority over the user’s desire to protect his personal information from being harvested.
It was further argued that the only restriction to the “safe harbor” proposal was that the projects should involve “matters of public concern”, which is also to be defined by the researcher or journalist themselves.
