19 Oct Facebook Portal’s Privacy Claims Misleading, Journalist Says
It was recently reported on The Verge that Facebook’s privacy claims with regards to their new smart messenger device, Portal, had been misleading.
It was revealed that Facebook executives had initially told Recode’s Kurt Wagner that the Portal will preserve user privacy and will not collect data. However, the firm clarified at a later date that while the device will not feature ads, it will use call and app usage data for ad targeting on other Facebook-owned properties.
It was said that even though Facebook tried to sell the device as “private by design” the company is still struggling at times to articulate exactly what data it wants to collect and how it will be used.
