Facebook Patents Technology That Use Family Photos for Ad Targeting

Facebook recently filed a patent that would make it easier for the company to target families via the contents of the photos they post, according to an application published this week.

The system will reportedly use a more sophisticated way of data mining where details from photographs with tags, descriptions, the poster’s IP address, the list of Facebook users using that same address, and any related information would be cross-referenced. Using this data, Facebook can then deduce various demographic information, such as the number of people are in a household, and other data on gender, age, and socioeconomic status that advertisers often look for.
