28 Dec Facebook May Soon Require Aadhaar Information
It was recently reported that Facebook is testing a feature which will require Indian citizens to provide their Aadhaar ID when creating a new account.
A prompt which says “Using the name on your Aadhaar card makes it easier for friends to recognize you” will only be shown to select users as of now. Facebook adds that providing the information is not mandatory, however, the move has raised some privacy concerns, especially since the use of Aadhaar is already being opposed by a number of activists.
Prior to this, Amazon had also asked Indian customers to provide their Aadhaar numbers as a means of verification for the tracking of lost packages.
