02 Oct Facebook May Receive $1.63 Billion Fine in EU for Latest Breach
The Wall Street Journal said this week that Ireland’s Data Protection Commission may hand Facebook a fine that could go up to $1.63 billion for its latest data breach that exposed the sensitive personal information of up to 50 million users.
It was said that the European regulator sought more answers on the nature and scope of the breach from the social network. The hack, which also affected the personal information of users on Tinder, Spotify, AirBnb, and Instagram is likely to be in violation of Europe’s strict data laws.
According to a Facebook representative, the hack had also affected two of their top executives: Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg.
