19 Oct Facebook Blames Spammers for Breach
Facebook said this week that spammers, and not state-backed hackers, were behind the biggest ever data breach that hit the company.
The firm said that the culprits behind the attack were a group of Facebook and Instagram spammers masquerading as a digital marketing company. Facebook added its security team was familiar with the group even before and they are already cooperating with the FBI on the matter.
Cybersecurity experts and financial analysts remarked that Facebook’s breach has left its users vulnerable to targeted phishing attacks. It also heightened the unease about posting to a service whose privacy, moderation and security practices are now being put into question.
