Facebook Awards Grants to Online Security, Encryption, Privacy Projects

Facebook awarded this week $800,000 to 10 winners of its “Secure the Internet” grants program which focuses on security and privacy related projects made available to universities and research organizations.

Outgoing security chief Alex Stamos announced that two organizations won $100,000, while the rest will be divided among the remaining 6.

Galois Inc. will be receiving $100,000 for its verification toolchain for C++ cryptographic libraries, while Lebanon-based Social Media Exchange Association will receive the same amount for its study called “Enhancing Online & Offline Safety During Internet Disruptions in Times of War” which seeks to understand the impact of internet outages on people’s safety and security during times of conflict.
