Earlier this week, Facebook announced a new feature that will alert users if a photo of them has been uploaded to the platform, even if they have not been tagged.

The setting, which takes advantage of Facebook’s facial recognition technology, will also alert users if someone else uses their photo as a profile image.

The setting is currently optional and is activated if the user opts in to have friends tag them in their photos. According to Facebook, the feature should give users control over how their photo is used on the platform.
