31 May Facebook Accused of Tricking Users into Signing New Privacy Policy
Privacy campaigners recently took aim at Facebook once more, accusing the social network of using a trick to make users agree to its new privacy policy. Considered to be Facebookâs nemesis, activist Max Schrems launched another complaint against the company which says that the two fake red dots next to the the messages and notifications icons on a page are being used to pressure users into consenting to the new rules.
According to Schrems, the indicator dots, which is supposed to notify users if they have new messages, were put on the consent page even if the user did not have any new messages. This coerced the user to choose whether to accept the new terms and privacy policy, or to delete the account. There was no option to disagree, opt-out or say no in any other way, shape or form.
