Ex-Facebook Security Chief Calls Out Apple for China Operations

Facebook’s former chief security officer, Alex Stamos, tweeted some scathing criticisms this week against Apple’s decisions to limit access to apps in China.

Stamos elaborated that it would not be good for the media to create an incentive structure that ignores treating Chinese citizens as less-deserving of privacy protections because a CEO is willing to bad-mouth the business model of their primary competitor, who uses advertising to subsidize cheaper devices,”

The comments were meant as a response to comments on privacy regulations made by Tim Cook in his keynote speech at the International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners (ICDPPC) conference in Brussels on Wednesday where he accused social media companies of abusing user privacy by creating algorithms that “serve up increasingly extreme content, pounding the user’s harmless preferences into hardened convictions.”
