EU to Suspend Privacy Shield if Trump Administration Fails to Comply

The European Commission revealed this week that the EU-US Privacy Shield will be suspended from September 1 if the Trump administration is unable to fully comply with the terms of the agreement.

The European Parliament’s Civil Liberties Committee had already approved a resolution calling for the suspension of the agreement if the US does not comply by September 1.

EU Justice Commissioner Vera Jourova already wrote to US commerce secretary Wilbur Ross in July, seeking progress on the US administration’s appointment of senior personnel to oversee Privacy Shield, which was agreed under the Obama administration.
