28 Aug EU to Penalize Groups Using Personal Information to Skew Elections
Sources have revealed this week that the European Commission has created a draft amendment that seeks to penalize political organizations that use personal data for strategic gains.
While the fine may only be set around 5% of the political party’s yearly budget, this will be on top of other GDPR-related penalties.
Although the measure is still likely to change and would have to get a clear vote in the EU Parliament, as well as approval from individual member states, it is said that there is a strong motivation to pass the amendment quickly as Russia and other anti-EU factions may attempt to skew the vote.
