09 May EU Regulators Not Ready for GDPR
According to a new Reuters survey which polled 24 European data regulators, 17 said that they are not yet ready for the GDPR, citing the lack of funding or authority as obstacles to performing their duties.
France’s CNIL data privacy watchdog chief Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin lamented that their resources were insufficient to cope with the new missions given by impending pan-EU privacy law, but like other regulators, her office is pressing the government for additional funding and staff.
It was additionally revealed that only five said the necessary data protection laws and funding in their jurisdiction were in place. Meanwhile, out of the 17 who said they lacked the necessary funding and legislation, 11 are expecting both to be provided in future.
