13 Apr EU Privacy Watchdogs to Probe Social Media Data Harvesting
Andrea Jelinek, EU data protection authorities group head, announced last Thursday that the recent scandal involving Facebook and Cambridge Analytica has prompted them to form a Social Media Working Group which will be looking into cases of social media data harvesting.
Jelinek added that apologies from a multi-billion dollar social media platform is not enough, and the harvesting of personal data from social networks could be a much more widespread practice that goes beyond the Cambridge Analytica case.
UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is presently leading the European investigation into the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
