25 Dec Erasing ‘DNA Footprint’ Online Difficult for Customers of Genetic Testing Companies, Report Says
A Bloomberg health reporter recently published a report called “Deleting Your Online DNA Data Is Brutally Difficult.” which showed how hard it may be for consumers to erase from the Internet the DNA data they provide direct-to-consumer testing companies.
In her report, Bloomberg’s Kristen V. Brown detailed her attempt to purge her data from websites and databases of genetic testing companies including Ancestry, 23andMe, and Helix.
Brown also found that having her samples destroyed was almost impossible because she had given her consent in the user agreement for her information to be shared with other companies.
